As most rogues, Shade has many masks which he uses to endear himself to others, and even more masks to hide himself with. Brother, lover, partners in crime; he can be whoever you need, one simply need to ask. And if he takes a liking to you, he could be yours in this game of smoke and mirrors- at least until someone else catches his attention.Most would see Shade as a cheerful and amorous flirt at first glance, though upon closer observation one may catch some personality traits that do not quite match what the Hyur attempts to portray to everyone else. Only a handful has seen Shade's serious or pensive side; and even fewer knows of his cynical and tired self. Extremely slow to trust, Shade considers most people acquaintances instead of friends; it is easier to let go if he does not let them close.A little known fact about the usually frivolous Hyur: He is very possessive of those he claims as his own. Once Shade has decided that you are one of his, you can be sure that the unassuming midlander will fight tooth and nails to guard what belongs to him.

His Story

Not Quite HyurShade was a homunculus created by an old vampire, with the intention to start anew without the chains of his past. However, the experiment was not a complete success; Shade retained partial, broken memories of all his previous lives. What resulted was an unstable individual with a large number of conflicting personalities that had been inevitably spliced into the man from the different fragments of his pasts.These conflicting personalities were magnified when Shade attempted to rejoin society. Interacting with others was impossible when the Hyur could not separate the confusing amalgamation of his past selves, yet a large part of him yearned for company. Head clouded and heart confused, Shade found his way into the arms of those who cared not for his personality, only for his willing body. Life was a blur of pleasure and pain as he took increasing risks, knowing that his artificial body was almost unkillable.

The GirlUntil the day he walked past a rugged child in the underbelly of Limsa and his instincts went crazy, screaming in his mind- "This is Kin. One of yours. One of YOU."She was and she knew it, for it was their bonds that pulled her to search him out for aid. She told her story; he had made the mistake of leaving his birthplace without destroying any of the research. A group of cultists had found their way in and had been attempting to create more homunculli, and this girl was their first successful creation.They returned together to the ruins that had been taken over by the cultists and he leveled the place in half a day.

His CompanionsShe was different, not just in their physical forms. While he was created with chaotic memories and innate skills from his previous lives, she had none of those. Both a blessing and a curse, for as much as she was free from those cursed memories the girl had little to no life skills or combat abilities. (Though she was as unkillable as he, a fact that they found out the hard way after a harrowing incident. He had been overprotective of her ever since.)Resigned to be the guardian of a younger version of himself, Shade brought the girl along on his travels as his adopted kin. His personalities stabilized during this period of focused guiding and teaching, a fact that they only realized after. They befriended and gained new companions, allowing Shade to further explore and understand himself as he learnt to separate each of his conflicting memory.

His Many FacesIt was not an easy journey, but the creature known as Shade slowly pieced together the fragments of his various pasts. He had led many different lives as his predecessor and creator. With a clearer understanding of himself, Shade started refining his ability to shift between his many personas, a skill invaluable to rogues like him.These days you may find Shade wandering the various establishments in Eorzea, or running one of his small businesses. Outwardly he plays the friendly and amiable gentleman, but with enough persistence, one might draw out the hidden sides of this chaotic individual.
